The American family is supposed to be founded on the romantic love of the marital partners. Traces of a more pragmatic attitude persist in the America upper classes, where daughters are expected to marry “well” – that is, to a male who is eligible by reason of family background and earning potential. Most Americans, however, tend to look askance at anyone who marries for money or some other practical reason in which love plays no part.

Happy enough, romantic love defies a clinical, definition. It is a different kind of love, from the love you have for your parents and your dog. It involve physical symptoms, such as pounding heart, and psychological symptoms, such as obsessive focus on one person and disregard for any resulting social or economic risks. Our culture encourages us to look for this love – to find that “one and only”, perhaps even through “love at first sight”. The phenomenon of romantic love occurs when two people meet and find one another personally and physically attractive. It has happened with usual guy from New York City Jon who fell in love with a charming young lady called Margo. It was very romantic and devoted love. They were blind from their love. Their love story began at summer vacation, the best vacation in their life. They spent every day together; Jon presented Margo flowers, sweets, teddy-bears and others gifts, made nice and crazy acting. They couldn’t live without each other. You may think why I speak about them in a past form. I tell you that soon it came to end. Uncountable telephone calls, night dates, going to a vacation without saying to parents were stopped…when they got marriage. Their romantic love turned to a real loving and devoted family. In a year they had a child – sweet and lovely daughter looked like her mother. It is a family of great example. They devote their life to each other. Even now when thirty years after wedding past they love each other and aren’t tired from seeing each other every day. Jon and Margo are my grandparents and I want to have the same romantic and devoted love like they have.
